Phil Smith

Phil Smith is a Senior Consultant and President of APS Engineering, Inc. Phil is the architect of the AE SLAPD LDAP and AE TransFax products. He holds degrees in Computer Science, and has 25 years experience as an innovator, with lead development and advisory positions in private industry and government, specializing in areas of advanced messaging, operating system design and embedded systems. Phil has led major directory, PKI and e-mail projects at NASA, IRS, TRW, Motorola., and overseen over 200 of LDAP installations of the 25,000 AE SLAPD servers worldwide. He has been a consulting architect for Cisco Systems, and consultant to Infoblox for their LDAP appliance product. He has overseen enormous fax installations for Fortune 500 firms such as HP, JC Penny, Salomon Bros, Genentech and others. Key design and development contributions include massively scaled Superdome architecture for HP Unix and the Itanium version of the "indestructible" and continuous available NonStop operating system used by most of the worlds stock exchanges. At Lawrence Livermore National Lab (LLNL), Phil was involved in wireless messaging for command and control systems in the Gulf War, and pioneering R&D tech transfer projects that introduced Bank of America, WalMart, and major textile industry players to e-commerce and commercialization of the Internet. He also architected and led the LLNL team to develop intelligent automata for data mining. For Lockheed, he designed the space shuttle experiment control systems for telemetry and sensors. Many prior years R&D in artificial intelligence for visual, voice and pattern recognition and sensor technology. At age 23, Phil managed a 1-billion dollar budget for technology application strategies for General Dynamics, was chief of the Robotics Division and the architect and lead developer of the nations first wide area, all digital air traffic control system, using passive radar mosaic and AI techniques for automated aircraft tracking and collision avoidance.
